Gwede Mantashe said there are no grounds to recall President Jacob
Zuma and that the African National Congress (ANC) had implemented all
remedial actions. Mantashe said that the ANC will discuss the matter at
the national conference next year as the succession battle had not yet
begun. Mantashe said that to address this now would cause destruction.
Mantashe did not elaborate on the destruction, although he did say Zuma
was eligible to stand for a third term. Mantashe said Zuma indicated
that he would not be doing so.
The legacy of Nkandla, COSATU, the ANC Youth League and the
non-existent ANC Women’s League are a few matters that raised eyebrows.
Messing with the South African Constitution, state capture, corruption,
Eskom and tribal alliances are another few issues Zuma is linked to.
Corruption is big, bigger now than under apartheid era. Zuma does this
well.
Zuma is currently serving his second term that will end in 2019. The
opposition parties want Zuma to go now and are fighting a legal battle
to have him removed as president. The ANC, on the other hand, are
protecting him. We cannot remain disillusioned with reality; Zuma must
go now. However, the Zuma loyalists want the president to serve his two
terms and even consider a third term. As Mantashe said, Zuma indicated
he would not stand for a third term, and that is probably the only good
news.
Loyalists of Zuma believe that South Africa is the only country in
the world that disrespects its president. The constant criticism against
him must end as there is the belief that the people who voted for the
ANC have an obligation to protect and defend the president. Irrespective
of the right or wrong the ANC under the leadership of Zuma, the
president must stay. The stalwarts believe that by removing or voting
Zuma out of office during these confusing times would not allow the
president sufficient time to defend himself and would be distorting
evidence.
It would be wise for Zuma to step down now and retire with the little
shred of dignity he might still have. Zuma must stop fibbing and
pretend that all is well in South Africa. Zuma must retire at Nkandla,
swim in the fire pool, feed the chickens and kill a cow but not walk
close to the fences just in case the sensors blare across South Africa.
Perhaps Zuma will collect another wife before he is made redundant.
His large family and seven or so wives will keep him entertained. There
are the ancestors who should keep him busy with rituals and dancing.
Perhaps he could write a book about how the ANC beat the Apartheid
government in the corruption game. Zuma will never be bored at NKANDLA.
The statement that there are no grounds to recall Zuma according to
the ANC once again gives rise to the incompetent leaders who fool the
people of South Africa. Zuma does not take responsibility for the
endless scandals of corruption. Zuma will never learn anything from all
the past mistakes and will remain a self-centered president.
