Four words that can sound like hope to someone who desperately needs work.
But sometimes the job doesn't exist.
The money doesn't exist.
And the person making the offer isn't trying to help.
South Africa's Department of Social Development has warned about fake online job offers being used by human traffickers to lure young people.
Some victims have been promised legitimate employment overseas.
Instead, they have ended up trapped and exploited.
The message is simple:
If a job offer sounds too good to be true, stop and investigate.
Who is the employer?
Can the company be verified?
Where exactly will you work?
Who is paying for your travel?
Who will you be working for?
Never hand over your passport or personal documents to someone you don't trust.
And talk to young people about this.
Because sometimes the first step in trafficking is not force.
It's a promise.
