Another shocking robbery,
where a 7-month-old baby was grabbed from
its mother by two robbers and had a panga (a hatchet like knife) held at her throat, while the suspects
demanded money.
A small building supply company, selling building sand, situated
in Hennenman, in the Freestate was attacked by two males who covered their
faces with black stockings. Both men were identified as speaking Afrikaans with a
Cape accent. The men entered the small shop, early on Wednesday and demanded
money, the mother of the baby said they did not have any, and they grabbed the
baby. A panga was held against the throat
of the infant. The mother gave the men
all the money they had, approximately R8000 and pleaded with the suspects to
give her back the baby.
The suspects threw the baby into the air, like a rag doll,
landed on a cabinet and then fell onto the floor. Motionless laying on the
floor, the mother grabbed the baby and fled the office to seek help. One of the robbers then threw a six-pack of milk at the mother and baby as they ran from the room.
As the mother got out of the shop, she managed to stop a passerby, and the police were called to assist. Before the police arrived the robbers fled
the scene.
The police will issue a statement regarding the
incident. The mother is traumatized from
the incident and under sedation. The baby was
examined by a doctor, and it was discovered
that there was a large lump on her head.
The doctors are monitoring the situation for now.
It is absolutely
disgusting that robbers will use babies and small children in their attempts to
rob people. These people have no consideration that children are the helpless victims
and cannot defend themselves. They are
cowards, targeting the children it is inhuman to threaten infants.
